Book Review: Boundaries and Protection by Pixie Lighthorse

I’ve just finished reading Boundaries and Protection by Pixie Lighthorse for one of my professional book clubs, and overall I found it to be a useful but not earth-shaking book for my own growth and learning. However, the way the book is written would be ideal for anyone who wanted a daily devotional-style read to go along with a boundaries practice. There are 58 meditations, most only 2-4 pages long, on topics such as:

rebuilding your foundation

mending and bending

understanding rage

What I appreciate about Lighthorse’s approach to boundaries is that she takes a compassionate view of anxiety and unhealed trauma and the ways these struggles can impact our ability to behave in ways that honor boundaries. There is a healthy acknowledgement of the struggles to maintain internal boundaries and resource ourselves enough to be sturdy and stable enough to hold boundaries.

So if you are engaged in learning to hold boundaries and grow in healthy ego strength and ability for healthy intimacy, this book could be a useful tool. I’d recommend planning to read it in short daily bites with time for journaling.
